“Message in a Bottle” is intended to provide some comfort to vulnerable people, the elderly, anyone living alone, the frail, the disabled etc., in their own homes should the emergency services be called to their property to deal with an incident or accident.
The idea consists of a 3" high white plastic bottle, clearly labelled, which is kept in the refrigerator in the person's home. The bottle contains a sheet with important details regarding that person, such as confirmation of name, contact names and telephone nos, details of their doctor and any current medical conditions. This may be vital first line information if the person is found in a collapsed or traumatised condition. A warning sticker is placed on the refrigerator door and another one on the inside of the front door, to alert the emergency services that an information bottle is kept inside the refrigerator. Sources of supply are being set up, but it is thought that initial supplies may best be distributed via active Neighbourhood Watch schemes, as the local co-ordinators may best known the specific people who will benefit most from the scheme. |
